This new website is garbage. Ugly, cluttered, obnoxious garbage. DMusic wasn't an attractive site, but it was easy to use. Now it's uglier and just as annoying to use as other sites. I used to think DMusic needed a makeover... but that was when I assumed capable people would be doing it. This is just embarrassing.

Katie, I understand that you're unhappy and disappointed with the redesign. Change is not always easy to adjust to and there are some pros and cons for the old site and the new one.

Anything new takes time to get used to so 'the jury is out' is a healthy way to think about it.

However, I feel your a little extreme in calling it 'ugly' and 'embarassing'. I also feel that it's quite insulting for people who have spent thousands of man hours re coding and working on the new design to be referred to as 'incapable' - They are caught between a rock and a hard place, mostly everyone complains about the old site look and feel but then a certain ratio are ready to rubbish the new site without giving it time to bed down or even make good suggestions about how it can be improved.

You should try to be more constructive and share your thoughts as to WHY the new design doesn't work for you and WHAT can be done to improve it. That could really help to benefit you and many others using the website.

Rolls Eyes ^ Dmusic has become a PTA meeting? Shrug

At least Katie has the guts to say exactly what she thinks. Too many people here are avoiding all the bad points of this re-design and smiling vacantly just hoping not to rock the boat, or incur the wrath of the increasingly defensive admins/coders.
Katie doesn't like the boat anymore, so why should she pretend to?

i have to agree with katie. its no longer easy to use, YOURE TRYING TO BE TOO MUCH LIKE MYSPACE. hell i come here to get away from myspace... but now, what's the point. it is ugly. and I don't care if that offends the people that made it ugly. instead of trying to make the site more capable, how about keeping in mind why people come here to begin with.. its just bad design practice. and its a horrible outcome. i'm going to post this in the forum as well.

leedsquietman, do I know you?

The jury isn't out. They took a design flaw and made it worse. They increased the already-existent fugliness. But they did that at the expense at the ease of use we once enjoyed. What reason have we to stay here?

All they had to do was take the site's design, give it an asthetic makeover without changing the layout. And then, they could've made changes to the layout without re-doing it all.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, but the whole thing is so amateurish. The design makes utterly no sense. I'm honest and I don't sugarcoat what I think. And I'm glad Rico and Fralalala understand that.

you obviously have no clue about programming, especially not of a site thats been patched up so many times over the last 5 years that it became impossible to fix.

but i wouldnt expect anyhing less from you, you barely interact anyway, you dont pay for anything and, just like the others, your free site has changed and you dont like it. fine, then go away.

I feel the same way you do, Katie. The new layout is ugly, confusing and completely uninviting. I get tired of the "lets give it a chance" arguments too. In 3 months time we're not going to turn around and suddenly say "Oh, I see its beauty now!". It's just something to, at best, get used to and put up with...like back hair or Monday morning traffic or people who use the word "chillax".

I like how you've been given the old "you don't pay so you don't have a say" argument too. How nice. Most of the artists on DMusic are non-subscribers and the site would barely exist without them. What about all the traffic you've brought to the site? If it wasn't for hearing your music and being inspired by it on here I would never have joined...and given the traffic I too have brought to the site it shows how insulting it is to say that you've never given anything to the site. God, you've made over six thousand user posts and left over four hundred and sixty comments - how the fuck is that not interacting?! Sorry, I'm ranting, but the bullying nature of the admins really pisses me off. Fra's completely right, hardly anyone dares to criticise the new design because of the inevitable backlash. It's bullshit. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the two best things you've given to this site: 1. You're completely awesome and always a joy to chat to, and 2. Your music is brilliant. You are as good a songwriter as anyone else I've ever heard on here. You have a special talent, Katie, and I really hope your departure from this site doesn't stop you from sharing it with people.

If you leave I'll be really sad, but I can more than understand why. I subscribed for the first time just days before the redesign went live...I really wish I hadn't bothered now. When my subscription is up I'll be leaving too. I used to think that DMusic was on the verge on something great, that it was going to grow and grow and eventually be recognised as the best independent music site on the net. Instead it's been shitcanned by its own creators. What a waste. Sigh

I aint bullying at all, Simon, so get your head out your ass and stop taking everything a staff member says outta context, I pointed out several things and you picked on one. And Simon, just like Katie, well, did you quietly accept you broke the rules once either? No. I remember you're reaction when you were caught. The same here too. You guys do nothing but whine. Good riddance!

I know enough about programming to know this website looks like poo. I have seen your homepage, Chris. Not exactly a masterpiece in sleek web interface and easy navigation. How you became part of DM's design team is a wonder. Oh no it isn't, DM is one big clique now. I never said anything about you personally but if you want to make it personal Chris, we can. I'd rather not have a simple disagreement turn ugly (as ugly as this site).

I read this and went to talk to Chris directly only to find he had blocked me - after spouting a huge bitchfest of a journal. Chris, you have a nerve to call anyone a whine - it is literally all you do. People don't like the re-design, so you start attacking them personally, and you are in a position of responsibility here! As a subscriber here, what the hell kind of customer service is that? Do I have the right to complain, or to lodge a personal complaint against you? No. That is why there is such hostility to the admins/coders about this re-design, because you (as usual) are the most vocal, and you get extremely defensive at even the slightest hint of criticism.

For your information, - I removed my artist page because I was being cyber stalked, it had nothing to do with the re-design. I did in fact point out a few points of criticism for the redesign during the subscriber test period - but they were ignored, so I figured there was no point in lobbying any more.
The sad thing is, despite hating this re-design it has actually grown on me a little and after sorting out the issue with the stalker I was considering returning here as an artist. Not anymore thanks to pricks like you. And I have been a subscriber for several months now - so I hope my opinions actually register with you.
Katie, I am sorry for ranting in your journal. I just had to point out a few things to Mr know it all.

Oh fucking-A.
Here's why this sucks. One, I love all you guys and it really bites the royal ass to see you fighting over this bullshit and especially if anyone actually leaves over it...

Katie is completely entitled to hate the redesign, and to say so, ESPECIALLY on her own page. Whether or not she subscribes makes not one whit of difference and should not be brought into the discussion.

The changes to this site are design changes, which are nowhere near as important as the artists and user contributions IMHO.

If Katie, Fra, Simon, or anyone decides to leave over the external shit, that is tragic and the site will get ugly where it really matters. That aint in the design (which I personally like) but the heart of the site: our music mostly, and our chitchat secondly.

Katie I have known you since day one, and I really do not want to see you go anyplace. Nobody else round here gonna call me MT. That would suck more ass than any design change could, you too Mr. Fradonaghy & Mr. Waldram.

Let's just break out the acoustics and play a round of freakin' Kumbaya, what do ya say???

The following post , IMHO, is idiotic.

"All they had to do was take the site's design, give it an asthetic makeover without changing the layout. And then, they could've made changes to the layout without re-doing it all."

WRONG.

You have absolutely no idea of how difficult it is to redesign live community that was hard-coded in the firstplace. "Nice building, but can you move it an inch?"

Idiotic.

To a dolt, it was a redesign. To the insiders, we templated the site to make it developer friendly for future development. Get it?

You are not the only blunt one around here. But you are kind of unique for your rudeness, stubborness and general pissy attitude. Never show a fool a half finished project.

Now play nice before we start critiquing your music, ok?
How would you like it if the only comment you heard was your music smells like shit?

You don't like the redesign. Great. We heard you. We get it. Shut up already.

No shit it's a template. You've just managed to add tons of useless features and make the site uglier. Instead of being DMusic now this site is MySpace + LiveJournal + fugliness + creepy British guys who solicit young female members for video chats.

Tell me my music "smells like shit." Then ask me how much I care. (After I ask you how you can smell music.) The difference between me and you is that I'm not some whiner with thin skin who gets incredibly offended at the first sign of criticism. I thought Chris was pathetic but the fact that you own this site and you act like such a child is downright embarrassing.

I'm honest and because you don't agree with me, I'm "rude" and "stubborn" and "pissy" and "idiotic." But you're "blunt" because you're the one lecturing me on how "pissy" I am and calling me "idiotic." Thank you for your version of reality. As far as I can see, you are just a haughty dick who is insecure about his ugly website. If my opinion is so worthless and wrong, you wouldn't have replied to me at all. If you and Chris was the least bit confident in what you've done, you wouldn't feel the need to defend yourself from one little member.

Here's your admin folks. Slinging insults at a member who dares to say she thinks the site is ugly.

You don't like that I don't like the redesign. Great. I heard you. I get it. Shut up already.

You're too thick to realize how hypocritical you sound right now. And that's the funny thing. You really do care too.

Disappointed wow... just wow.
I think that irrespective of how the site may look, if this is the attitude of the owner to a disgruntled user then this site is indeed VERY ugly.
What the hell is going on here? Why is it that if Katie points out in her journal how she feels it is suddenly open season on the personal insults and name calling?
The re-design is unpopular - so what? Dmusic was about more than aesthetics.. at least it used to be.

Rolling On Floor Laughing! "You need therapy, clueless little girl. The site is not ugly. You are ugly." Wow, good one. You've resorted to insults you've pulled out of the air and have no basis. I understand it's hard to argue back when I am plain smarter than you are but you really make yourself look like a dolt by bothering to reply at all. Run along and plot with Chris about how you can make the site uglier and which female member he will try to stalk next.
